  • Case Study: Website Redesign

    To give you an idea of specific problems we have come across, and how we solved them, we present our “Case Study” series. These posts will give you an idea of how custom software and integration can help your business succeed.

    SMG Security Systems, Inc., is a Security Systems Integrator dedicated to solving clients’ security problems by providing reliable and cost effective security systems that may save lives, protect property and preserve our national security. The company, based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, provides both business and residential security solutions ranging from security systems and GPS tracking to electronic door locks and smartphone security. SMG works to continually improve industry standards, while providing a productive work environment that encourages employees to be innovative and excel.

    SMG was looking to redesign their website to address new marketing, operational and customer service initiatives. Their website had previously been used primarily for sales support, limited operational purposes and access to customer services. SMG’s new site needed an updated image with a high-tech feel – a professional appearance and broad capabilities. How can we redesign SMG’s website to improve customer interaction and service?

    Our Solution:  To give customers a full view of SMG’s offerings, we recommended a section to organize sales materials into site pages for products and services. They also suggested specialized content to help demonstrate SMG’s expertise along with video education and social media integration.

    Responsive Website Design: We advised that the new site be built using responsive design which allows content and structure to adjust based on the device the site is being viewed on (desktop browser, mobile device, tablet, etc.). The website also includes a fully featured content management system, so SMG staff could make changes to the site, such as updating product information or adding specials, without the need for a computer science degree.

    Customer And Employee Portals: A major focus of this project was providing a central location for customers and employees to access the different services and information each party needs. Customers now have a central location to access their alarm systems, inspection reports, and GPS trackers, and pay their bills. Additionally, the customer section also contains user guides for their equipment, remote support, online support, and adds the ability to update emergency contact information, change passcodes, and more.

    SMG employees also have central access to their email, technical documents, time sheets, dropboxes, and various employee forms.
